Green and Sustainable IT

As the leading professional body for IT practitioners around the world, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, recognises the industry’s fundamental need to address the environmental impact of IT.

Carbon legislation is already starting to tighten business practices, underpinned by international treaties and national regulations. It is time for IT professionals and organisations to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills required to deliver energy efficient and sustainable IT.

Businesses are already starting to respond to these demands by making changes to infrastructure. We have already seen the emergence of Sustainability Managers and demand for a differing skill set placed on individuals in industry.

The Institute is proud to provide the profession with a range of initiatives that will enable individuals and organisations to significantly contribute to lowering carbon and increasing efficiency in both cost and energy. Our Green IT Specialist Group and Data Centre Specialist Group have been at the forefront of some of these initiatives.
