BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has partnered with the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) to deliver a comprehensive software testing certification programme to the global testing community.
Overview
What are the learning outcomes?
The following learning objectives are defined as applying to the syllabus. Each topic in the syllabus will be examined according to the learning objective for that topic.
- Level K1: Remember - Recognise, remember and recall a term or concept.
- Level K2: Understand - Select the reasons or explanations for statements related to the topic, and can summarise, compare, classify and give examples for the testing concept.
- Level K3: Apply - Select the correct application of a concept or technique and apply it to a given context.
- Level K4: Analyse - Separate information related to a concept or technique into its constituent parts for better understanding, and can distinguish between facts and inferences.

Who is it aimed at?The certificate is principally aimed at anyone involved in software testing. This includes people in roles such as testers, test analysts, test engineers, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers and software developers.
This Foundation Level certificate is also appropriate for anyone who wants a basic understanding of software testing, such as project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants.
Entry Requirements:There are no formal requirements for entry to the course although the candidate should have a basic working knowledge of IT and it is recommended that all candidates attend a training course run by an accredited Training Provider.

Structure of the Exam
- The examination consists of a one hour exam with 40 multiple choice questions.
- It will be a 'closed book' examination i.e. no notes or books will be allowed into the examination room.
- If the business language is not English, candidates sitting the examination have a maximum of 75 minutes.
- The pass mark is 65% (26 out of 40).

- Accredited Training Provider (course & exam)
- Public Examinations (exam only)
- Online Examination (exam only)
Accredited Training Provider
It is recommended that candidates take an accredited training course prior to taking the exam. If you attend an accredited training course, details of the exam can be obtained from your Training Provider.Public Examinations

Public examinations must be booked and paid for a minimum of three weeks prior to the examination date (subject to availability). If you are applying directly, you should register and pay online using our Online Registration Facility.
Online Examination
Taking the exam online via a computer based examination centre provides you with your exam result immediately. You can book to take the exam at many of the Prometric or Pearson Vue test centres around the world.- Prometric has in excess of 5000 test centres in over 160 countries.
- Pearson Vue has in excess of 4000 test centres in over 140 countries.
Exam Fees
Public Examinations cost £135 (exc VAT).
If you are booking via an Accredited Training Provider or via an online examination centre then you can obtain information on fees and charges by contacting them directly.
